Permanentni magneti predstavljaju ključne elemente za primene u raznim oblastima, od uređaja za konverziju energije i kućnih aparata do područja novih tehnologija poput hibridnih vozila i vetrogeneratora. Izvrsna svojstva permanentnih magneta proizlaze od elemenata retkih zemalja (RE), koji se trenutno smatraju visokokritičnim zbog ograničenja u snabdevanju i značajnih ekoloških uticaja povezanih sa njihovim izdvajanjem i prečišćavanjem. Cilj projekta DOMINANTMAG je razvoj novih magneta bez elemenata retkih zemalja, zasnovanih na gvožđe oksidima kao alternativi komercijalnim permanentnim magnetima, koji će pokazati izvanredne magnetne performanse, ekonomičnost i ekološku održivost.
